Maybe you’ve heard of Roller Derby?
It’s a full-contact sport played between two opposing teams: Both teams field four Blockers (one of them with a stripe on their helmet is a special blocker called the Pivot – she can swap places once with the Jammer during a jam), and one Jammer, she’s the one wearing a helmet-star and who is the only player that can score points. The aim of the game is for both teams to help get their Jammer through the pack (the largest group of players from both teams), while simultaneously blocking the opposing Jammer’s progress.
Studded around the boundaries of the track are the Non-Skating Officials (NSOs, in WFTDA-pink or Black), and Referees (in zebra stripes). These people make sure that the game is played safely and according to WFTDA (Women’s Flat Track Derby Association) guidelines.
